A Night of Joyous “Ho, Ho Hos!” - Meeting 13/12/11

The 11th meeting of SATMC was indeed a night to remember.  Interestingly, we had 11 attendees, of mixed ages, strengths, talents and backgrounds – a true reflection of our oneness of purpose in coming together for this pre Christmas meeting.

The occasion was magically transformed by our exuberant and youthful GE, Victor Lee, ACB, ALB, (the IP Div P Gov). He brought with himself not just a gift, but also a refreshing, charming outlook to sustain the momentum of the meeting. Our TME was the DTM extraordinaire,  Sharmini Helen who brought us a delightfully delicious  X’mas Yule log. Then of course, there was DTM Meyyappa, the President from Deloitte Kassim Chan TMC, who came at the special request of our Treasurer, DTM Ibu Zaharah. Another Club President who made his maiden visit to a club away from the KL city centre, is CC, CL, Robin Yap from ICT Bintang.

When it came to impromptu speaking, five volunteers eagerly participated with zest and vigour in response to Sharmini’s collection of X’mas-related topics. It was a rare treat to have our IPP President of SATMC, ATMS Haridas, with us. He  took precious time off from his young children at home to share his table topics speech and play his role as a speech evaluator.

The five project speeches carried powerful messages of inspiration and persuasion. TM Chew exalted Donald Trump to new heights of glory while TM Zaini delivered his 9th CC speech with much conviction and confidence. The never-ending battle between Quality and Quantity raged through his well-composed speech and his conversational tone of assurance had an innate power of persuasion. In contrast, ATMS Manoharan researched his topic with diligence to share the sole secret & law of getting. He proceeded to walk his talk by presenting 8 valuable issues of the Toastmasters magazine to the VPPR for her publicity campaign.

As for a CC#3 speech, VPPR Sarah gave the audience good reasons why they should write and proceeded to provide simple guidelines to help everyone write it right. She left listeners with the encouraging thought that writing can be a “sweet and wonderful reward” as  whatever trivial stuff written today may  be recognized as a best seller some fine day.

Finally, President, ACB, CL Nor Lida entertained us with snippets of humour from Pak Pandir. Then she delved into serious work problems which rocked her sanity. Nevertheless, attending Toastmasters meetings and being among mutually supportive friends dispelled her stress and gave her solid reasons to go on.

The evaluators should be applauded for their sincere, clear and entertaining comments. All speakers gained a few insights to polish and refine their skills. DTM Meyyappa took home with himself the Best Table Topics speaker & the Best Evaluator awards. When the meeting ended, our guests left with gifts, candy canes and loads of good wishes. We may not be many in numbers, but we  prefer to concur with TM Zaini that Quality should reign supreme, and service to members should be our No. 1 priority.

Hope to see all of you in our next meeting on 27 Dec @ 8pm.

Deepavali Meeting - 25 Oct 2011

Shah Alam TMC’s “Next Leap” Meeting ~ Tues 11 Oct 2011

Shah Alam TMC was rejuvenated by a rare gush of energy when the club’s founding member Datuk V or Mano, made his re-appearance  after an absence of almost 2 years. (WOW!)  Another faithful member, Nashatar Singh also deserved mention by attending 2 meetings in a row, after a 2-year hiatus. (WOW!)

Tengku Sha, the TME, brought a very amiable guest, Azahar and promoted the TM concept to all present with his usual bravado, eloquence, drive and passion. The IP AreaB4 Gov, Teoh Chun Ming was also present to play his role as the evaluator of VPE Zul’s advanced speech and to publicize the HPL workshop which will be facilitated by DTM LeeAnn Tang on 19 Nov. And then there were 3 “guests” from INTEC TMC, two of whom played roles while 1 shared an Icebreaker speech. To crown it all, we had Vincent Soon ACB, ALB, from Shaklee to be the GE, ever-ready to share his bubbly bag of jokes and ideas for improvement with the audience.

It was certainly good to have the meeting graced by 16 attentive and eager participants. Four speakers rose to the challenges posed  to them by  Mano’s  Table Topics which dwelt on idioms.  DTM Sharmini took the prize of “Best Table Topics Speaker” when she talked about the wisdom of “Look before You Leap”.

Of the 4 project speakers, VPE Zul has certainly demonstrated great strides of improvement. He spoke with conviction, delivered pragmatic advice and added vibrant shades of tonal expression to keep us transfixed and mildly amused. An auditor by profession, Zul shared 3 tips to help us balance our imbalances in life.

Undoubtedly, our club champion speaker and President, Nor Lida remained unbeatable and emerged as the Best Assignment Speaker. Nor Lida’s 10-min  After Dinner Speech focused on the  challenges we face in our efforts to hone our public speaking skills. She then convinced us to seek inspiration from simple things in our everyday life to push us a step further, to take the next leap for our continued growth and improvement.

At the end of the meeting, Azahar was convinced to sign up as a member. He was impressed by the unique evaluation and constructive comments which speakers received. The INTEC members also shared  their initial fears and apprehensions but agreed that this visit had been a great learning experience to remember.

So let us “follow through on the promise (we) made to reach our goals” and just “keep moving on  to excel and succeed together!

A Bouquet of Thanks to IPP Zaharah Ibrahim, DTM

ON behalf of SATMC, a bouquet of thanks for serving as the Organizing Chair (OC) for the Installation of new Exco on 26 July 2011. It was a solemn yet grand affair which I believe augurs well for the club’s performance this term.

Your ever willingness to share your time and experience ensured the success of the installation ceremony, a very important milestone in the SATMC calendar of events. Not forgetting your personal contribution towards sponsoring the Exco name pins. Each of us will wear this badge of honour with pride throughout the term.

SATMC is indeed fortunate to have such a dedicated club member… your Leadership definitely an inspiration to all of us.

District 51 Term 2011/12 - Message from the District Governor

Dear Fellow Toastmasters,

" Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed.
Always aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well ".

The District 51 team for the new term 2011/2012 looks forward to working
in harmony with all members to fulfill the tenets of the Toastmasters Mission.

Congratulations to those who have taken up roles as club officers. We wish
you all the best on your journey this term.

Members are our top priority and it is our commitment to serve you the best we can.
Most of us would have joined our clubs to acquire communication skills. We discovered
there was far more to it than just that. Members developed to be more confident individuals,
better leaders and committed stakeholders in the organization. Those members who
immersed themselves totally in Toastmasters developed and gained tremendously.

If Toastmasters is the vehicle which can bring members from one point of self-development
to another, then passion must be the fuel.  Passion is the energy and power that fuels
members to take positions and serve selflessly in a non-profit organization.

"S.E.R.V.E. with Passion" is our tagline and we will do our best in harmony with you.
(S- Sincerity,  E- Excellence, R- Respect, V- Vision, E- Enthusiasm)

I take the opportunity to thank all the District Officers and Appointed Officers who have
stepped up to serve District 51. (Attached is the list of District Officers).

Let us continue our journey together in Toastmasters and "S.E.R.V.E. with Passion".

Warm regards,
Sue Chan, DTM
District 51 Governor

AGM 2011/12 Notice..

Post report - SATMC meeting 10 May 2011

Hi esteemed SATMC members
Better late than never, here’s what happened last meeting on 10 May 2011:

  • (Finally) a member induction ceremony for Mohd Jaladi was successfully conducted by our VPE Sarah, who presided over the meeting as Prez Zaharah was away
  • Aisya Ajwa Hassan has delivered her Ice Breaker speech “About Myself’ and received a standing ovation from the club
  • Zulfarham has delivered his tenth speech from the Competent Communicator (CC) manual titled “Follow Your Dreams, Transform Your Life” and will now be known as a Competent Communicator (CC). Congrats, Zul!
  • Jaladi has delivered his second speech from the CC manual titled “How to Assemble a Computer by Yourself”. Jaladi is on the fast track and has committed to deliver his third speech in the following meeting
  • We had four Table Topic Speakers and the Best Table Topics Speaker Award went to Nor Lida, CC.
  • SATMC was fortunate to be accorded the presence of a luminary that evening, none other than Dr Lim Chooi Peng. Dr Lim was a Professor in Nanyang Uni Spore and came back to Malaysia to set up HICT (a college in Klang). Dr Lim was also District Governor (District 80) in 2005/2006 which covers Singapore , Thailand , Hong Kong & Macau. Dr Lim gave an exemplary evaluation of Zulfarham’s speech. Wow! I believe all of us there agreed that Dr Lim’s evaluation report was the highlight of the evening as we rarely get to see such a high standard of evaluating!
  • Our Area Governor, Teoh Chun Ming, gamely played the role of General Evaluator. Chun Ming has been quite a regular at our meetings. His constant presence without a doubt demonstrated his dedication and commitment to see SATMC reach new heights. Thanks for the wonderful support, Chun Ming!
  • Last but not least, our Toastmasters of the Evening was our ever affable Tengku Shaifudin. A job well done as TME!!

Do drop by at our next meeting on May 24! See you there…
