A Night of Joyous “Ho, Ho Hos!” - Meeting 13/12/11

The 11th meeting of SATMC was indeed a night to remember.  Interestingly, we had 11 attendees, of mixed ages, strengths, talents and backgrounds – a true reflection of our oneness of purpose in coming together for this pre Christmas meeting.

The occasion was magically transformed by our exuberant and youthful GE, Victor Lee, ACB, ALB, (the IP Div P Gov). He brought with himself not just a gift, but also a refreshing, charming outlook to sustain the momentum of the meeting. Our TME was the DTM extraordinaire,  Sharmini Helen who brought us a delightfully delicious  X’mas Yule log. Then of course, there was DTM Meyyappa, the President from Deloitte Kassim Chan TMC, who came at the special request of our Treasurer, DTM Ibu Zaharah. Another Club President who made his maiden visit to a club away from the KL city centre, is CC, CL, Robin Yap from ICT Bintang.

When it came to impromptu speaking, five volunteers eagerly participated with zest and vigour in response to Sharmini’s collection of X’mas-related topics. It was a rare treat to have our IPP President of SATMC, ATMS Haridas, with us. He  took precious time off from his young children at home to share his table topics speech and play his role as a speech evaluator.

The five project speeches carried powerful messages of inspiration and persuasion. TM Chew exalted Donald Trump to new heights of glory while TM Zaini delivered his 9th CC speech with much conviction and confidence. The never-ending battle between Quality and Quantity raged through his well-composed speech and his conversational tone of assurance had an innate power of persuasion. In contrast, ATMS Manoharan researched his topic with diligence to share the sole secret & law of getting. He proceeded to walk his talk by presenting 8 valuable issues of the Toastmasters magazine to the VPPR for her publicity campaign.

As for a CC#3 speech, VPPR Sarah gave the audience good reasons why they should write and proceeded to provide simple guidelines to help everyone write it right. She left listeners with the encouraging thought that writing can be a “sweet and wonderful reward” as  whatever trivial stuff written today may  be recognized as a best seller some fine day.

Finally, President, ACB, CL Nor Lida entertained us with snippets of humour from Pak Pandir. Then she delved into serious work problems which rocked her sanity. Nevertheless, attending Toastmasters meetings and being among mutually supportive friends dispelled her stress and gave her solid reasons to go on.

The evaluators should be applauded for their sincere, clear and entertaining comments. All speakers gained a few insights to polish and refine their skills. DTM Meyyappa took home with himself the Best Table Topics speaker & the Best Evaluator awards. When the meeting ended, our guests left with gifts, candy canes and loads of good wishes. We may not be many in numbers, but we  prefer to concur with TM Zaini that Quality should reign supreme, and service to members should be our No. 1 priority.

Hope to see all of you in our next meeting on 27 Dec @ 8pm.
